Known to many as the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, bursting at the seams with culture and excitement. With 45.5 million yearly visitors, it comes as no surprise to see that Los Angeles is America’s number one tourist destination, as it attracts holidaymakers from all over the globe, courtesy of its everlasting charm. From the Walk of Fame, to Santa Monica Bay, there is nowhere quite like LA.

ESTA or a U.S. visa for Los Angeles?

Foreign nationals of other countries must hold an ESTA or U.S. Visa for Los Angeles. This allows you to travel to an airport or border of the U.S. and be granted access to the country. There are two types of U.S. visas – Non-immigrant is required when you intend to stay temporarily, such as when on holiday. Immigrant is required to live permanently in the U.S.

On the other hand, the U.S. Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, or ESTA for short, is a visa waiver, and it is an automated system used to determine the eligibility of individuals to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Programme. If you are from a list of 39 countries (listed at the end of this paragraph) then you can apply for an ESTA. This gives you permission to stay for up to 90 days on a temporary basis within the U.S. The ESTA can be used without having to apply for a visa. The purpose of the ESTA application allows multiple visits to the U.S. of under 90 consecutive days and allows more freedom on a short notice completely avoiding the need to apply for the conventional Visa discussed above. If you are from one of the following countries then you are eligible to apply for a U.S. ESTA: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Malta, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom.

If you are not eligible or were denied for an ESTA, you will need to apply for a visa to Los Angeles. Your visa or ESTA will need to be authorised before you depart for your trip to the United States.

One of the main reasons why tourists favour LA so much is that there is never a dull moment in this extraordinary city. When visiting Los Angeles, you are never more than a stone’s throw away from the city’s most notable sights and attractions. These include (but are no way limited to) the Hollywood Boulevard, Griffith Park and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Located at the edge of Griffith Park, no tourist would be complete without catching a glimpse of the infamous Hollywood sign. When the many attractions become too overwhelming, LA’s luscious beaches are the place to be. Venice Beach, located within the LA Westside, is the hub for all things unique and wonderful. From souvenirs to street performers, Venice Beach has it all.

Located within ‘The Golden State’ that is California, Los Angeles most definitely lives up to this nickname by having far more days that are golden than grey. Per year, the sun makes an appearance on 284 days, keeping LA’s average temperature at a lovely 22 degrees Celsius. Even in winter, icy temperatures are rare, so you can ditch those frumpy thermals if you are taking a trip this Christmas. Although the city rarely turns cold, LA is no stranger to the occasional rain shower, so make sure to pack that umbrella just in case! Arguably, the best time for visiting Los Angeles is during spring. Between the months of March and May, LA’s temperature is at its most comfortable for visiting outdoor sights and attractions, meaning that you won’t sweat to death as soon as you set foot on Californian ground.

With over 8,000 mouth-watering restaurants and establishments dotted all over the city, Los Angeles is foodie heaven. Some would even argue that nowhere does food better than LA. From tacos, to donuts, there is something for everyone. The average tourist may be unaware of just how much Los Angeles has to offer in terms of food, but after digging a little deeper, you will find that there are hundreds of delicious hidden gems all over the city. For $1.75, you can grab an ice cream and cookie sandwich in Westwood, and for only $.75 cents each you can get your hands on a dozen hot, flaky, cheesy pastries down in Burbank, Glendale, and Downey. If you are planning on heading to a restaurant during your visit to Los Angeles, don’t be surprised if you end up splashing more cash than you would have expected, as most (if not all) food in the City of Angels has been brought down as a gift from the Gods themselves

Taking into consideration the sights, food, and weather that Los Angeles brings to those who grace its streets, it is certain as to why this beautiful destination receives over 45 million visitors a year. For decades, LA has been the perfect holiday destination for millions of visitors worldwide, and that is something that will not be changing anytime soon. Los Angeles is not just any city – it’s the birthplace of entertainment and the greatest city in America.
